In a small town, 9-year-old Shuisheng is being fostered by his working parents at a relative's place, where he is bullied by his classmates. While hiding from the bullies, Shuisheng encounters Huang Shimao, a gangster in the town who is also on the run. Huang Sirmao protects Shuisheng. Huang lives in the town's abandoned agricultural machinery station and collects rags for a living. He has a crush on the village flower and fantasizes about getting rich, making him an outcast in the eyes of the townspeople. After they meet, Shuisheng realizes that Huang Shimao can give him shelter from bullying. And Shuisheng's purity and kindness also makes the lonely Huang Shimao gradually open his heart to him. The two souls who lacked emotional comfort gradually warmed up to each other and became each other's only friends. However life gives them different dilemmas and when the summer ends, their friendship seems to come to an end.
