Film Introduction
In 1950s Vietnam, ten-year-old Mui is sent by her neighbor to work as a maid for a large family in Saigon. As the decade passes and Mui grows more classically beautiful, her mistress, unable to support the family's expenses, sends Mui to work as a maid for another family. The new owner is a young pianist, whom Mui had looked at adoringly when she first met him as a young girl, and the pianist gradually feels her warmth in his contact with Mui.
