Film Introduction
In Suzhou in the 1930s, a time when the old and the new are changing, the stunning kabuki Gu Cuihua marries into a wealthy family, and together with her gentle husband, Rong Lan Yuan, they compose the moving melodies of the kunqu opera The Peony Pavilion in the gardens. But the appearance of the young intellectual Xing Zhigang breaks their beautiful life together, leaving behind only deep melancholy.
