Film Introduction
A lavish manor house in northern Portugal has been abandoned by its original owners, and now only a stubborn old housekeeper remains to guard it. Her husband has gone to work in France, leaving her with a restless daughter. The last guardian of the old land discarded by the owner of the estate, symbolizing the disappearance of the old order, is this old servant. She decides to continue guarding the manor, confident that the master will eventually return.
