synopsis
It's no longer the unpleasantness of her parents that traps her, but the unleashed skeleton girl inside her.
More than ten years ago, I met my skeleton cousin at my uncle's house, who kept her father, who was having an affair, in a self-mutilating way until she deteriorated physically and mentally to the brink of death. After her parents divorced, she called her father "that guy" until he died. On the day of the memorial service, she knelt down and said in tears, "I was wrong". The image of the skeleton and the kneeling apology has always haunted me, reminding me of the many unbridgeable gaps and irreparable regrets between parents and children around me.
After a failed suicide attempt, April learns that her mother Qiaozhen's herbal tea store will soon be demolished. She returns to her hometown and offers to take her mother to live abroad, but her mother refuses. She discovers that her mother has gotten back together with her divorced father, Yongtang, who asks April to take care of her poor half-sister, Xiaojing. As a young girl, April abused herself to keep her cheating father and eventually suffered from anorexia. Her father tried to save April from death at all costs, but eventually left her for another family. During the years she is dependent on her mother, April is indifferent to Qiaozhen and is unable to accept Junhong's affection because of her fear of intimacy. After overhearing her divorced parents' monstrous one-night stand, and learning that her mother had condoned her self-destruction in order to bring Yongtang back, a desperate April chooses to flee her homeland. Although April has long since recovered, the skeleton that symbolizes her hatred has always been buried in her heart. Upon her return to China, the demon returns to haunt her. April forces Yongtang to stop working for Qiaozhen's herbal tea store and agrees to Yongtang's request to take care of Xiaojing on the condition that he disappears completely. Xiao Jing is happy about April's appearance, but she is disappointed when April offers her a sum of money to settle the debt. Kyo gives the money to Yong-dang and has a confrontation with him. The day before the herbal tea store closes, the police notify Yongtang of his death. His father's unexpected death was actually a result of buying funds to fulfill his mother's wish to keep the store open, but he suffered a stroke when he realized that he had been cheated and fought with the crooks. April's demons return to dust with her father. She is determined to stay and live with Qiaozhen.
