Focusing on Hu Lu's personal experiences and gender feelings, She's in the Middle of the Water tells the story of the daily battle between women's awakening and patriarchal traditions. Hu Lu is full of ambition and dreams of becoming a doctor, but ends up working as an underground textile worker; Li Han enjoys the ordinary and has no ambition, but has to study for a doctorate. The movie reflects on the traditional concept of "man on the outside, woman on the inside". Hu Lu could be our mother, sister, or even every woman around us, and the movie shows how an ordinary woman like her can take the first difficult step to think about her marital relationship, her role in society, and her personal value.
故事大纲
In '95, a young nurse, Hu Lu, followed her husband, who was studying abroad, to New York to earn money in order to support his studies and support the family. In the end, however, she only found work sewing in an underground garment factory. Many of the garment workers are illegal immigrants, and Hu Lu secretly uses her medical knowledge to help them, as if she has recovered the dream of being a doctor that she was forced to give up, and found a little bit of joy in her foreign life.
