Piety leads one to believe that there is a wonderful place of hope above reality. But piety also often leads one to extreme conservatism, like a stone sinking into the sea, into the bottom of a well of isolation. How do we gain the initial tolerance and wisdom of life? The last rope that binds us is perhaps faith itself. No one should live in ignorance, in God's menagerie, but in a love and realization that is sufficient to comfort others and sufficient to master oneself.
