Zhang Dasheng, an old man in Northwest China, learned of his son's death after his release on parole, and more than twenty years in prison not only smoothed out the edges of this old beast, but also made him live in the guilt of his son forever. The two of them gradually learn about each other's life in the game with the criminal organization. A fatherless illegitimate child and a childless parolee, the arrangement of destiny makes the two of them gradually develop a kind of subtle father-son relationship. In the end, when the 300,000 dollars in cash, a symbol of new life, and Anbang, whose life hangs in the balance, are placed in front of Zhang Da Sheng, he chooses to save Anbang, and also finds another way of self-redemption. Those they once wanted to make amends for, ran away from, and even hated, all gave them new life at the end of the story.
