Shanxi, 2013, a city where birds have not been seen for years. Cosmos (29, female), an ambitious reporter for a Shanxi TV station, has risen quickly through the ranks by concocting fake news to guide public opinion during incidents of social conflict, but despite this, she is transferred to the endangered shuttered program "Strange Stories of the World" to work as a writer-director due to rumors of a pregnancy. While agonizing, a strange news story comes into her view - a cake seller in the middle of a city village claims that his deceased partner has turned into a strange bird. Soon Cosmos arrives to shoot an extremely absurd human-bird golden wedding anniversary as her turnaround, but unexpectedly at the crucial moment, the bird dies after taking an aphrodisiac provided by the sponsor. In order to continue filming, the universe went into the local rotten building rumored to be home to the bird flock to look for a double, and met the residents who secretly live there for various reasons. In the course of his contact with them, the universe realizes that his mother, whose childhood real estate business failed, seems to be to blame for the death of her mother by leaping off the building. Universe wants to help them to get proper resettlement, but unexpectedly fell into the real estate developer's scheme, the rotten building is about to be forced to demolish and relocate, he is caught in a public opinion crisis, and even more so, he was told that these so-called residents, in fact, is just a flock of birds. The universe is determined to defend the truth in his heart and help the residents to fight for their rights. Cosmos breaks into the demolished building, and her memories keep flooding back to the lake until the moment when her mother jumps off the building - Cosmos sees her turn into a bird. The universe keeps running through memory and reality, trying to save the residents, her mother who is about to fall, and herself who is trapped in her memories. Eventually, the universe realizes that she, too, has turned into a bird, and she leads everyone to break out of the rotten building and fly further into the sky.
