Xiao Hai goes out of the desert alone for the purpose of picking up wind for his essay, and the strange encounters he has one after another become the material for his writing. Xiao Hai's figure travels through the desert, the county, the water park and other places; Xiao Hai's thoughts are extended three times in memory, imagination and reality. When Xiao Hai arrives at the "sea" after traveling thousands of miles, a ship carrying destiny and choices breaks into his vision, and the images also witness the expression of multiple semantics in his composition.
Xiao Hai's family lives alone in the desert, and two years ago they were featured on television as "guardians of the homeland" by the media. As a result, Xiao Hai wrote an essay, "My First Time on TV," which he read aloud for a school award, while his classmates booed him. When the heat subsided, Xiao Hai's life returned to calm, but his love for writing never went out. One day, Xiao Hai sneaks off to the county seat to find his mom to take him to a water park. It's a set route, but a suspended shuttle bus, a strange hitchhiker, Yuan Yuan, a fellow teenager who adores him, his missing mom, an indifferent aunt, and a tailor who wants to say something, involve Xiao Hai in the mystery of his life. Finally, the quirky Yuan Yuan takes Xiao Hai to arrive at the water park. Here, Xiao Hai seems to see the sea. At this moment, the media is broadcasting live from Xiao Hai's house and Xiao Hai is exposed to attention. Yuan Yuan disappears from there, and Xiao Hai pursues him all the way, but is unable to find him. When Xiao Hai returns to the original point where he stepped out and is no longer an unsophisticated teenager, did this day ever really exist?
