"The History of the Three Nobles

创作阐述

Four years ago, I often had insomnia, and I tried all kinds of methods, but they were ineffective. One night when I couldn't sleep again and was staring at the ceiling in despair, my mind inexplicably went to the person I envied most in the world at this moment, Sleeping Beauty. If a prince had come through the window to save me, I would have hoped that his kiss would have had the opposite effect and put me to sleep immediately. For a long time now, I've wanted to tell a romantic and absurd fairy tale, and the kiss idea just inspired me. So I made the boy in the story, San Gui, have a curse: anything he kisses instantly falls into a deep sleep, unless he kisses true love. I still chose to use the most traditional settings of fairy tales: curses and true love. I believe we can all recognize the obsolescence and embarrassment of the term "true love" in the contemporary context, where we usually use it to denigrate naïve, faith-shy love. The same is true of fairy tales, which we tease ourselves that we are "too old to believe in them". But "true love" is actually a word we humans invented ourselves to hold on to our purest, most romanticized aspirations and imaginations about love and romanticism. The purpose of these fairy tales never seemed to be to force everyone to believe in true love, or to define what true love is; in my understanding, its most important meaning has always been to allow us to embrace a sense of romance and childlike innocence. So for me, fairy tales about true love are always worth telling, and we already have the old ones, the ones we know so well, and I want to move on to a new one.

故事大纲

Above the clouds, there is a heavenly casino where the gods bet on the sorrows and joys of the world. One of the bets is about "whether true love exists". The gods chose an earthly baby boy and gave him a strange curse: anything he kissed would instantly fall into a deep sleep. Unless, of course, he kisses true love. This cursed boy is named Wang San Gui. Born with a curse, San Gui experienced a lonely and unfortunate childhood. His only companion was a girl from White Stone City, but because of the girl, San Gui's curse was discovered and he was regarded as an alien by the townspeople. When his grandmother passed away and the girl left him without saying goodbye, young Sangui had no choice but to leave his hometown. He came to the girl's town, Shiraishi City. Sangui grows up alone and meets three women who change his destiny. White Stone City looks nice and peaceful, but underneath it where the sun doesn't shine, there are many strange, handicapped and ugly people imprisoned. They are people who have been abandoned by love and are here to make fireworks for the annual fireworks festival in Shiraishi Castle. Sangui is also unfortunate enough to be caught up in this. What will become of Sangui? Has his curse, at last, been broken?
