Director's/Screenwriter's Bio
Jing Lai: a native of Beihai, Guangxi, graduated from Communication University of China, directed the short films "Lily" and "Birch and Vine".
The story was filmed in my hometown, Beihai, Guangxi. Beihai is a small tropical seaside city with a blend of Southeast Asian and Lingnan cultures, where people make their living from harbor freight, fishing and tourism, and where the pace of life is very slow and leisurely. The city's human customs, food culture and architectural style are influenced by various cultural elements, but at the same time, they have formed their own styles by mixing with each other. Therefore, I hope to discover, capture and build a unique audiovisual language style for this space from the city itself.
Ah Di, every time before she introduces herself, she always drafts many times in her mind, and then laughs in a self-moderating tone and says the words, "My name is Chen Nian Di, hahaha, I do have a younger brother ......" On Di's 18th birthday, she had the right to change her name independently, and she decided that she wanted to change her name, but the road to changing her name didn't go as smoothly as she thought it would. Because her parents did not agree to change her name, she could only secretly get the household register and birth certificate needed to change her name from home. It was hard to get the materials needed to change her name, but when she came to the police station, her application was rejected because the reason for the name change was not sufficient. Enraged, Ti even went to a mental hospital and falsely claimed to be mentally ill, hoping that the doctor would give her a certificate of mental injury in order to meet the criteria of "mental injury caused by the name" in the reason for the name change. Not only do her efforts to change her name come to naught, but Di's grades at school, where she used to be a top student, meet their Waterloo, and the boy she has a crush on seems to be having an affair with another girl. During Di's difficult journey to change her name, she also has deeper interactions with some strange and warm people, such as Ah Tian, a young man who defends his exaggerated hair, Xiaoxuan, a fat girl with a northeastern accent, and Di's familiar yet strange mother.
