In the near future, scientists have discovered that the sun is expanding rapidly, and in a short time the entire solar system, including the Earth, will be swallowed up by the sun. In order to save themselves, mankind has come up with a bold plan called "Wandering Earth", which involves pouring global efforts into building tens of thousands of engines and steering motors on the Earth's surface to propel the planet out of the solar system and to another habitat in 2,500 years' time. Chinese astronaut Liu Peiqiang (Wu Jing) travels to the International Space Station when his son Liu Qi is four years old, and shoulders the burden of navigator with his international counterparts. As Liu Qi (Qu Chuxiao) grows up, he sneaks to the surface with his younger sister Duo Duo (Zhao Jinmai) and steals Grandpa Han Zi'ang's (Wu Mengda) transporter, which results in not only a speedy arrest, but also a global engine shutdown. In order to fix the engine and stop the Earth from crashing into Jupiter, the world begins a saturation rescue, and even Liu Qi's car is conscripted to join them. In the process of racing against time countless people have gone before and after, defying the odds, only to continue the hope of the survival of a hundred generations of children and grandchildren ...... The movie is based on Liu Cixin's novel of the same name.
