In order to seize the opportunity, U.S. Army Lieutenant General Leslie Groves (Matt Damon) approaches Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), a leading figure in the fields of quantum mechanics and nuclear physics, and recommends him to be the Chief Scientist of the Manhattan Project as well as the Director General of Los Alamos National Laboratory. After two years of research and development, a massive mushroom cloud rises over the wasteland, signaling the end of the meat grinder that was World War II. Oppenheimer was like Prometheus who brought fire to the earth, but his realization of human nature and fear of the future forced him to go against the government.
