Film Introduction
In 1858, in the Jewish Quarter of Bologna, papal guards broke into the Moltara home and took away their seven-year-old son, Edgardo, by order of the bishop. Because the nanny had secretly baptized Edgardo as a baby, he was required by strict canon law to receive a Catholic education. Edgardo's parents were distraught and would stop at nothing to get their child back. However, the Church and the Pope are adamant that Edgardo should not be returned in order to consolidate their faltering power ......
