The Farrells, currently separated, are quite powerful - husband Jean is a distinguished academic and television commentator, wife Claire is a writer known for her radical feminist stance, and their son Alexander has been accepted into a prestigious university in the United States and has a bright future ahead of him. However this good fortune is soon shattered when Alexander is accused of rape by the daughter of his mother's current boyfriend. The two close-knit families go to court as a result, and the five are caught in the crossfire.
