Fattening the Bride
Directed by Michela Occhipinti Produced by Antoine de Clément-Tonel, Marta Donzelli, Gregorio Bonessa Screenplay by Simone Coppini, Michela Occhipinti
Virida is a fashionable girl who works in a beauty salon and often hangs out with her friends. Despite this, she is engaged to a man chosen by her family. In Mauritania, plumpness is seen as a symbol of beauty, glamour, wealth and social status. Like many girls of her age, Viridha has to follow the traditional custom of "force-feeding" to gain weight before the wedding. With her wedding just around the corner, the incessant feeding makes Verita finally defy tradition and everything she's taken for granted: her lover, her lifestyle, and especially her own body.
